Pitching assignments for players playing in midweek games

Coaches are reminded that when washed out games are replayed mid week there will be an impact on how pitchers can be used in games played the following weekend.  There will be a different impact depending on whether the replay game is played on either Wednesday or Thursday.

The following information is based on players not pitching in any other games on the day before, including school competitions and games.  It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure players do not over-pitch or over catch – failure to do so may incur suspension and/or loss of points.

Note:

·        A single pitch in any innings counts as an innings pitched.

·        An U14 aged player who is registered in the 16s League will be subject to pitches and innings limits that apply to 14s League play

·        If the pitcher completes pitching to the batter in the box and in doing so goes over the minor assignment pitch limit, they will then have completed a substantial assignment.

·        If the pitcher completes pitching to the batter in the box and in doing so goes over the substantial assignment pitch limit, they will then have completed a major assignment.

Only pitchers completing a major assignment can finish the batter in the box, i.e. if their pitching limit is reached while pitching to a batter they continue pitching until that batter has completed their turn at bat. Pitchers being restricted to either a minor or substantial pitching assignment cannot finish pitching to the batter in the box - once their limit is reached they must be removed from the mound.

Wednesday Evening games:

·        All players are able to pitch a minor assignment without impacting on weekend games.

·        All players can pitch a substantial assignment without impacting on the weekend - as long as they do not pitch in any other game before the weekend.

·        Any player pitching a major assignment cannot pitch or catch again until Sunday and cannot play at all on Thursday.

·        Any player playing in a rep game on the Sunday is restricted to a minor assignment on Saturday if they are eligible to pitch based on Wednesday's pitching assignment

If you want players to pitch on both Wednesday and Saturday, they can only pitch a maximum of a substantial assignment on the Wednesday.

Thursday Evening games:

·        All players are able to pitch a minor assignment without impacting on weekend games.

·        Any player completing a substantial assignment on Thursday cannot pitch or catch on Saturday, however they can play in the field.

·        Any player pitching a major assignment

o       cannot play at all on Friday

o       can field but not pitch or catch on Saturday or Sunday

o       may pitch on Monday

Any Greater Western representative player playing on the Sunday following a Thursday night game is not permitted to pitch a major assignment on Thursday night.  If they are required to pitch a minor assignment on Saturday, then they are restricted to a minor assignment on Thursday.
